Does being stressed out hurt my baby?

#1

There is no denying that modern life can be stressful. And as thrilled as you may be to be expecting, being pregnant is no walk in the park either. Your hormones, your growing body, and your circumstances can all conspire to make you feel as if you’re going to lose your mind. So does that anxiety also hurt your baby?

Probably not. Some studies have indicated that prolonged extreme stress (think losing a job, home or family member, or living in a dangerous situation) may be related to premature birth and low birthweight. However, general stress from meeting a tight deadline or arguing with your partner doesn’t appear to have any effect on a developing fetus.

Whew. Take a deep breath – there’s one less thing to worry about.

I hope that helps, please post any questions you might have!

Kind regards,
Monica
